A full-day of immersive, end-of-life, herbalism study in Astoria, OR this September
Join us for a day in hilly, hazy Astoria to learn about the many kinds of herbal medicines, their traditions and properties, and how to use them in your end-of-life work. This workshop will bring your hands, heart, and mind together to learn how to use plants as tools, and create an actual end-of-life herbalism kit to take home, that includes: a grief tea blend, a smoke clearing bundle, an essential oil blend for transitions, and a candle of remembrance. We’ll close our time together with a private, celebratory screening of Practical Magic 2.
This is for death doulas, hospice workers, grief counselors, chaplains, and anyone else who knows plants as allies and guides for thresholds.

This workshop will unite your mind, your hands, your grief, your senses, and most importantly, your heart toward learning to work with sacred plant allies in your end of life care work. We will start our day of magic with a lecture on the tradition of herbal medicine. You’ll get to know the plants that support the dying and the grieving, their unique properties, and how to actually incorporate them into your practice (both professional and personal). Then you’ll get into the weeds of the practice (ha ha), by creating your own grief tea blend, smoke clearing bundle, essential oil blend for transitions, and candle of remembrance - all in community, together.
From there, dinner in Astoria is yours. Explore the town, wander, and integrate before joining us (in your best witchy attire) for a private screening of Practical Magic 2. Grief work, and death work, and some damn good margaritas.
Hearth and Haven
Rosebriar Mansion will be our gathering home. It was once a church, built to house the Sisters of the Holy Names convent, and it still carries the bones of that life: the original stained glass windows, a saintly shrine, and confessional rooms (that now hold board games).
Whether you are a witch, death doula, grief tender, or apothecary nerd, we welcome you to this day of magic, ritual, candlelight, and community. Come craft, learn new tools for your practice, and be in community with the others like you.

Your hosts
Lauren Carroll
Lauren Carroll, co-founder of La Mort, is a Death Educator & Holistic Funeral Director who is passionate about weaving community and family back into the death space. Her work centers around re-aligning our culture with Mother Earth and helping humans remember how to love one another. She is a former board member for the National Home Funeral Alliance and co-founded The Deathwives.
This year, Lauren completed her education and training to become a licensed psilocybin facilitator in the state of Colorado, which will allow her to legally facilitate psilocybin journeys for people facing end-of-life and their families, supporting them through grief, in either a healing center or their own homes. She believes plants and mushrooms are allies in life and death.
Morgan Fava
With over a decade of study in the realms of death, dying, and grief, Morgan has journeyed through significant loss and transformation in her own life. As a certified death doula, energy healer, Akashic record practitioner, and ceremonialist, she is dedicated to supporting individuals and families through the sacred transition of death.
In her work, she provides compassionate guidance and education, helping to create a more peaceful and serene end-of-life experience.
Our Teaching / Learning / Creating Style at La Mort
We leave behind the polished, gate-keepy approach to education. We teach in ways that carry story and experience. We listen. We laugh (a lot). We go off-script sometimes. We cry (with you)(for those you’ve loved)(for those we’ve loved). We like science and studies and logical frameworks, but also mysticism and poetry and all that stuff. We really love to honor history and those who came before. We move through some serious curricula, but don’t take anything too seriously. We dedicate ourselves to seeing you, and want you to feel seen. We deeply honor our intuition and yours. We lead with integrity (always). And we welcome the odd-balls and misfits, because it takes one to know one.
