Tarot for Thresholds
understanding tarot as a tool and talisman for threshold work
Birth. Death. Divorce. Diagnosis. Reinvention… Cross these thresholds alone and it's easy to crumble into them, isolate through them, or feel eclipsed by them entirely. This three-week journey offers tarot as a supportive tool and companion for thresholds, designed for those who help people cross them. In this class, you will learn how to use tarot to help your people meet their thresholds without being consumed by them, through exploring the Major Arcana, the Fool’s Journey, and the universal archetypes held within both.

A deeper kind of threshold work
Threshold work lives in the in-between… in the not knowing, the uncertain, the becoming… As death and grief workers, we regularly help people meet this in-between through active listening, resource sharing, and practical education - but sometimes what the people in our care need most is a powerful, reflective tool.
The Major Arcana is a map of archetypes: Death, The Tower, The Star, The Fool. Each one a stand-in for a moment, a transition, an energy we already inhabit. Offered at the right moment, a tarot card can do what a million resources can't: hand someone their own experience back, without asking them to explain or justify it, and remind them that they’re doing just fine.
Tarot for Thresholds trains you to use these archetypes in your threshold practice: as a way to open conversation, hold silence, and give someone language and guidance for what they're moving through.
Our 3 Main Themes
theme One
the cards
Together, we will explore Tarot history and traditional reading, unpack the meaning and symbolism behind each of the Major Arcana cards, and work our way through the Fools Journey. We will also discuss frameworks for actually learning and remembering the cards through comparative study.
theme Two
the practice
You will be offered a lens to look at your own practice through, and explore ways to bring compassion and kindness back to it’s center. You will explore different ways to use and embody the cards, including Talismanic Tarot: a practice that holds a card or energy as a talisman or focus for a particular challenge in life.
Theme Three
compassionate readings
You will learn to read for others in a compassionate, inclusive, and encouraging way, rather than a diminishing way that ‘should’s’ them into action. You will leave ready to guide and support anyone (including yourself) through the rollercoaster of human experience.
No tarot experience is needed for this class.
You do not need to have experience with tarot, an existing understanding of tarot, or an active tarot practice to join this class. This is for all practitioners of compassion, including but not limited to: doulas of birth and death, counseling, bodywork, spirituality, and support-work overall. It is for those looking for guidance and support whilst crossing the different thresholds of life - birth, death, divorce, change, evolution. And for those wanting to lean into release and surrender as a purposeful practice when encountering crucibles of life.

Our Teaching / Learning / Creating Style at La Mort
We leave behind the polished, gate-keepy approach to education. We teach in ways that carry story and experience. We listen. We laugh (a lot). We go off-script sometimes. We cry (with you)(for those you’ve loved)(for those we’ve loved). We like science and studies and logical frameworks, but also mysticism and poetry and all that stuff. We really love to honor history and those who came before. We move through some serious curricula, but don’t take anything too seriously. We dedicate ourselves to seeing you, and want you to feel seen. We deeply honor our intuition and yours. We lead with integrity (always). And we welcome the odd-balls and misfits, because it takes one to know one.
